"The shamrock has three heart shaped green leaves and is more than the unofficial symbol of Ireland. It has held the meaning to most or Ireland's historic cultures. The Druids believe it was a sacred plant that could ward of evil and the Celtics believed it had mystical properties because of its three heart shaped leaves and believed that three was a sacred number. Some Christians believed that the shamrock had special meaning- the three leaves representing the Holy Trinity."
The Holy Trinity is the belief that god is 3 parts which are- God the father, God the son (represented by Christ) and god the Holy spirit. It is said that Saint Patrick used the shamrock to illustrate or symbolize the Holy Trinity. |
