The pookas are a certain type of fairy- one who was bent on creating disaster. The pooka appears at night across rural Ireland and sea board. On a good day the pooka would cause destruction on a farm like tearing down fences and disturbing the animals. On a bad day the pooka would stand outside the farm house and call the people inside by name. The people that came out ,if any came out ,would get carried away by the pooka. The pookas were also blamed for many shipwreck along the rocky coast because of there love for messing with ships pulling away from Ireland.
I also found out that the pooka is a fairy that can shape shift. Sometimes into human, horse or goblin etc and that the sight of it can stop chickens from laying there eggs or stop a cow from producing milk. It is said to have misty yellow eyes as in the picture on the side shows. |
